Milkdrunk is an original one-woman show by Washington, D.C.-based playwright and performer Cathleen O’Malley. Crackling with wit, O’Malley tears back the (damp) curtain on childbirth, milk, and what it takes to be a mother mammal in a modern world. Described as a “primal scream from the trenches of first-time motherhood,” the play premiered off-Broadway at the United Solo Theatre Festival at Theater Row and has since thrilled audiences from Cleveland to Washington, D.C. to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Intimate and yet universal, O’Malley’s unflinching honesty bypasses taboos and mythologies about birth, breasts, and bonding. Milkdrunk is a theatrical experience for anyone who has ever known, been—or been birthed by—a mother.

[Image description: A female presenting figure stands in the right half of the image. She is naked, showcasing a protruding, pregnant belly. She has her arms folded across her chest, covering herself with a yellowish/brownish fabric. She has shoulder length brownish hair, wears heart shaped sunglasses, and has a cheeky, warm smile on her face. On her right wrist is a bracelet made of dozens of opalescent pearls. Behind her is a black void. Along the top of the image is the word “MILKDRUNK.”]
